Keeping Learners Away From Drugs

The Boys and Girls Club of Protea Glen, Soweto, is keeping school kids off the streets by diverting their attention to education and wellness through an after-school programme.

After-care facilities allow young people the chance to improve their academics and explore their talents through cultural activities and sports.

Club Manager Emma Ramokgadi has said some of the programmes involve discussing personal challenges.

The club also aims to keep young people away from substance abuse.

“We know that drug and substance abuse are a big problem here in Protea Glen with nyaope being quite popular.”

Ramokgadi explained club members are even visited by industry leaders who share stories of their career trajectories and experiences.
